FFL Transfer Process

Bought a firearm online or from an out-of-state private seller? Federal law requires it to ship to a federally licensed dealer (FFL) before you can take possession. We do those transfers every day for $25 per firearm, plus the Michigan state Pistol Sales Record fee of $10 on handguns (rifles and shotguns are not subject to the state PSR).

Step-by-Step

1. Buy your firearm anywhere

Bud’s, GunBroker, an out-of-state private sale, a different dealer — doesn’t matter. Just pay for it.

2. Tell the seller to ship to us

Give them this address and our FFL number:

Most sellers know this drill and will ask for our license. We can email a copy of our FFL directly to the seller — just message us with the seller’s contact info.

3. Pay the transfer fee

Once we confirm the firearm is en route, we’ll invoice you for the $25 transfer fee (and $10 Michigan PSR fee if it’s a handgun). Pay online before pickup.

4. We log it in

The firearm hits our Acquisition & Disposition log within 24 hours of arrival. You get a notification by email or text the same day.

5. Come in to pick up

Bring your Michigan driver’s license or state ID with current address. If your address on the ID is wrong, bring a recent utility bill or lease as a second proof.

If it’s a handgun and you’re a non-CPL holder, you’ll fill out the state RI-060 Pistol Sales Record on top of the federal 4473. CPL holders are exempt from RI-060 (Mich. Comp. Laws § 28.422).

6. NICS check

We run the federal background check (NICS) right at the counter. Almost all checks come back “Proceed” in under 60 seconds. Occasional delays happen — that’s NICS, not us.

7. Take it home

Total time at the counter: usually under 30 minutes. We do a final function check with you, talk through any quirks of the platform, and you’re out the door.

What We Won’t Transfer

• Firearms shipped to us without prior arrangement (we won’t accept “mystery” shipments)
• Firearms that were illegally modified or have obliterated serial numbers
• NFA items without an approved Form 4 (those go through our SOT process — contact us)
